Earning it's place as the "King of Kicks", the Meia Lua De Compasso is one of the strongest, fastest & most lethal kick in the capoeira world. This offensive move is highly regarded as a true elemental representation of capoeira with the combination of an evasive maneuver and a spinning kick.
One myth described that the slaves would put their chained hands on the floor so that they were able to launch a fast & surprising round kick. There is also a saying among capoeira mestres that a capoeirista's general skill level can be determined on how well and fast they are able to execute a Meia Lua De Compasso.
With the right technique it can be applied in various styles, speeds, strengths & heights. This move involves full body movement/rotation, balance, momentum & control.
make these improvements:
1. Once you've got the basics from the beginner level repeat the same steps however apply a little more power & speed when you turn your body & launch your kicks. This will help build momentum and balance as you turn and kick.
2. Focus on your technique & balance as you transition from each steps. Try different heights with your kicks by adjusting both your torso and leg as you turn. Find the right adjustments until you feel a comfortable spinning rotation.
3. Repeat multiple times until you get a better control of the movement and various heights.
To adjust the heights of your kick, the lower you throw your torso the higher your leg kicks.
make these improvements:
1. Once you've got the moderate level all sorted repeat the same steps but this time only place one hand (opposite side of the foot kicking) on the ground and apply more power & speed to your kick.
2. Find the right adjustments until you feel a comfortable spinning rotation.
3. Repeat multiple times until you get a better control of the various speeds, heights & power.
The power of the kick begins with the hand(s) slamming into the ground and ending with the spin of the kicking heel.
