Capoeira is an activity that is relatively easy to pick up but is actually very difficult to master. Meia Lua de Frente (trans – front half moon) was the first kick I was taught on my Capoeira journey and really takes that idea and runs with it.
Deceptively simple, all beginners pick it up by the end of their first class but to this day I struggle to have complete control of my kick.
Capoeira is a game about call and response and this particular kick is generally used as a call. I would guess that this is firstly because, as a call, you are in a good position after completion to respond to the opponent’s response and secondly, as a response, it is not generally a very effective movement.
For similar reasons, you do not see this kick often in faster paced games. But if you do, be wary your opponent may be seeing if you will take the bait.
